Charting Temperatures May 16, 2008

The day before yesterday, I started charting our temperatures using the new Lumiscope thermometer.

You take your temperature every three hours — around 9, 12 and 3. Then you take the average of those 3 numbers.

Me
Wednesday: 97.7
Thursday: 97.9

Seth
Wednesday: 96.5
Thursday: 96.7

Then you chart it on an Excel spreadsheet I downloaded from Dr. Rind’s website. He explains it all on the site.

It’s not difficult. And this is really the only way you can accurately check your metabolic/endocrine function.

Obviously Seth and I are both still chronically low (hypothyroid). No wonder we can’t lose weight! And no wonder I had trouble making enough breast milk.

I do want to restart breastfeeding but it may be a while before I am capable. From what I understand, this process takes months. I will ask Dr. Flechas about it on Tuesday.

    Ann Marie,
I’m so curious how do you restart breastfeeding once you have stopped? Also what do you think about taking three lac while breastfeeding? I decided my husband and I must have yeast in our bodies, my theory is pretty much everyone has an overgrowth, and I started him on Three lac and so far so good, he didn’t have any nausea and has more energy after less than a week. I want to start too, but I’m breastfeeding so I’m a little nervous. Just interested in your opinion. THANKS!

Yes it’s fine to take ThreeLac while breastfeeding. It will help your baby too — since s/he will get more probiotics through the breastmilk if you are supplementing.

If you see any “die off” (google die off candida) reactions in yourself or the baby, just slow down and take less.

To restart breastfeeding, you use something called Lact-Aid. You can also use a pump but the Lact-Aid works better. I will probably try both. Need to wait until I get my temperature up, though. There’s lots more info online about restarting — since a lot of mothers with adopted children do it — google adoptive breastfeeding.
