This is Yensi, our wonderful nanny, smiling her beautiful smile.
Look at those perfectly straight, white teeth! She never wore braces and has never had a cavity.
And look at her gorgeous bone structure. High cheekbones and a wide palate.
Yensi moved here from Guatemala when she was seven years old. As a child, she was fed raw milk from grass-fed cows, liver, egg yolks, bone broth, and cod liver oil. They made their own bread and tortillas and the grains and beans were always soaked. Yensi said they soaked the grains for their bread for two weeks. They also drank kefir (which they call bulgaros) and a fermented drink similar to kombucha (called chicha).
And no, it’s not just genetic. It’s the food! Her younger brothers have grown up on modern American food and have crooked teeth and lots of cavities.
Compare these two photos of Seminole Indians, taken by Weston Price (published in his book, “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration”):

The “primitive” Seminole girl (left) has a wide face with plenty of room for dental arches. The “modernized” Seminole girl (right), born to parents who had abandoned their traditional diets, has a narrowed face, crowded teeth, and a reduced immunity to disease.

She is so beautiful! I’m happy that she agreed to appear as a Weston Price Smile model.
Yes, she hates pictures but she did it for me. She is a sweetheart!
Two weeks of soaking!!! Dang, how did they keep track if they wanted to make fresh grains day to day? I think that is very interesting…I think her smile says a thousand words. It is not just her teeth but her whole face that screams “well nourished.”
A few years from now I’m hoping to see a change in my own mouth after healing my gut and then drinking raw kefir and all the other WAP foods. I’m not sure if our bones can change when we are in our 20s but it is worth a shot. And at least it will help my future children.
I agree with you, Elizabeth. Isn’t she gorgeous?!
I have already seen changes in my own mouth. One of my front teeth chipped a few years ago. It’s almost completely remineralized over the past few months.
Yensi is beautiful! She has a radiant, sweet personality showing through her smile.
Please, I hope can she tell more about soaking beans and grains. What type of beans and grains did they use and how were they soaked? Was the two-week soak for grains in plain water?
I’d love to know how they made the tortillas and bread. Tortillas in the store often have undesirable additives.
Thank you to you and Yensi for sharing.
Hi, Donna,
She does have a radiant, sweet personality. That is very true! We are very lucky to have found her. She is a joy to be around.
I asked her for the tortilla and bread recipes — she said she didn’t know but she would ask her mother.
I will also ask her what they soaked everything in.
Ann Marie
Thank you.
And Kate’s baby photo - how precious she is and what a joyful expression.
Thank you Donna!!
cheeseslave, my teen son has a slightly chipped front tooth and a tooth two over from that one that has a bigger chip that he wants repaired by the dentist. It’s been a couple years since it happened; I’ve been hoping it would repair on its own as I know from others’ experiences that can happen. The trouble is, even raw organic dairy breaks his face out terribly. Cod liver oil seems to cause skin problems on him too. So I give him calcium supplements and extra vitamin D but the tooth hasn’t repaired. I don’t know of anyone who has had success remineralizing a chipped tooth without dairy and don’t know if it’s possible to do so.
If he is having skin problems from eating certain foods, that almost always means that his gut flora is abnormal. If his gut flora is abnormal, he is also not absorbing nutrients properly. Which means his teeth won’t remineralize.
It is essential to heal the gut and rebuild the flora first. He must abstain from allergens during this process — as well as avoid all sugar, refined carbs and processed foods.
If he will do it, have him go on an elimination diet for a few weeks — then slowly introduce one food at a time every 3 days. Then you can see what he has a reaction to. Have him avoid the things he has reactions to for a few months to a year.
Meanwhile, work on building up his gut flora by giving him Biokult (you can also use Threelac or Fivelac, but I think Biokult is the best). He will need to be on this for at least a few months — possibly up to a year or more.
I think it’s really important for him to do this — not just to remineralize the teeth, but because he’s going to have all kinds of other problems until he does it. My gut flora was bad when I was a teen and by the time I was 26, I had arthritis.
Good luck! I hope you can convince him to do it. I know teens can be tough but if you can help him understand the risks of not doing it and the benefits of doing it, I think he will go along.
By the way, I have a chipped tooth in the front too. It happened a few years ago. It has remineralized 90% within a few months (since I started doing raw milk/cod liver oil/liver/no sugar/very little grains in October).
Im 39 yrs old have perfict teeth and never had a cavity and i eat just about everthing, im in good shape, must be the toothpaste i use..
What did you eat as a child? Did you have crooked teeth?
Oops. I typed a comment and forgot my name/address and when it came back to this page the comment was deleted.
Anyway, what did I say…
Thank you for the BioKult suggestion. I just read about it online and it sounds good. My son has had yeast in the past after antibiotics and I’ve given him probiotic capsules but I’m sure he could use more. He is an older teen so I can’t control his diet very well since he is out and about and buys himself junk food. I think our family has low stomach acid. Even at this age I break out if I get too much dairy fat, so I try to take betaine hydrochloride capsules which seem to help.
It’s wonderful your tooth remineralized. How much raw milk did you have each day? Do you eat a lot of liver? I printed your recipe to try. Thank you.
Jimmy Wynn, do you drink tea? Tea can have various levels of fluoride in it. Some people I know who have lived on the average modern diet seem to still have strong teeth and I think it was because they were tea drinkers. However, tea can also have aluminum.
For a while I was drinking over a quart of raw milk every day. That was when I was nursing. These days I drink at least 2 glasses or 16 oz per day. Plus I eat raw cheese and raw butter almost every day.
I try to eat liver but I don’t like it — except for duck liver pate and liverwurst. So I’ve been taking Solgar dessicated liver for the past few months and I try to eat the duck pate or liverwurst at least once a week.
I think I’m going to try the betaine for my husband — does it help your body digest the fats? He has trouble with that.
It really seems to help my digestion of fats. Stomach acid decreases with age. I have Swedish bitters too which I think Sally Fallon uses but don’t like the taste. Maybe that would help too.
I used dried liver powder in the past but found out if I used it for too long I’d get very large bruises on my legs. I’ve read that too much iron can do that as well as too little. Maybe if I’d taken vitamin C at the same time that would not have happened.
OK he has been using the Swedish bitters and that does help him. So I guess the hydrochloric acid would help him. Dr. Campbell-McBride recommends it, too.
I don’t think you need liver more than once a week unless you are trying to rebuild your body (like after an illness or if you are pregnant or nursing). I take the liver tablets but only 3 per day — so it’s not very much at all. Plus I take 1/2 tsp of cod liver oil every day.
I was taking 6 liver tablets per day and 1-2 tsp of CLO per day when I was nursing.

Hello! im 22. I chipped my front teeth well over 10 years ago so I was too young to do the research. The nerve was exposed so I had it bonded and the other small chip was filed down. THe bonding has lasted. I had a crooked gapped smile growing up. Big dental arch but gapped and was chipping teeth because of my bite. I just recently got my braces off, and my enamel is developing small cracks in it. Do you know if this diet helps to the extent that it heals enamel cracks?? I am reluctant to go to the dentist as they seem to do my harm than good. I currently use all the processed toothpaste junk. Also, can a chip over 10 years old be reminalized if say the bonding falls off and I dont re-do it? Or is too late for that chip? It was a fairly large chip. Any help is appreciated. I dont want dentures at 30 because i love cheetos. I need to make a change.
Yes, this diet will absolutely help with chips and cracks. I had a chip in my front tooth and it has remineralized about 80-90% in just 7 months.
I would avoid dentists as much as you can — unless you can find a good one who practices these principles (I found one here in Los Angeles).
Get off toothpaste — it has glycerin which prevents remineralization of the teeth.
Yes, the tooth can remineralize. Just leave it alone. It is not too late.
You do need to get on high vitamin cod liver oil, lots of good fats, raw dairy if you can, etc.
Comment back if you want more info and I’ll post it.
